With the difficult economy and no jobs, what can I do to earn a good living?

one company believes it has the answers through food - more specifically, groceries packed in banana boxes.

Today with more than 20% of the nation on welfare and far too many children and adults going hungry, one company believes it has the answers to reducing hunger, unemployment and even helping veteran's. Food is something most of us manage to eat 2 to 3 times daily and don't take for granted. But many in the U.S not only

miss meals more than once a week but they also can only afford to eat once daily.

Hunger in America is a problem. Food insecurity has become a greater problem since 2008 with the credit crunch and banks being unwilling to loan money to small businesses. With so many military veterans returning from various engagements and being unable to find work, it's refreshing to find people and companies who not

only care about America and job creation but also helping veterans.

I sat down with Banana Box Wholesale Grocery and asked them what made people want to open up banana box wholesale salvage grocery stores. I expected the answers to be different but what I took away from the interview was that food is the most precious commodity we have on the planet, next to air and water. I was also surprised that many stores were owned by veterans and that the outlook for "mom and pop stores" were increasing versus diminishing, despite the Big Box retailers market shares and huge budgets. One store owner commented,  "most folks prefer to know the local store and develop a relationship."

The CEO of Banana Box Wholesale Grocery asked me not to use his name. He is very modest and would rather focus on what he can do for others. The CEO did comment and said, "I hate hunger and I really hate it when kids go hungry and veterans walk our streets not knowing what they are going to do now they are back

from serving our country. The U.S. must do a better job preparing these men and women for life as a civilian." I learned that one of several of their customers were former Special Forces soldiers and they were transitioning well from being Green Beret's to now operating their own hometown grocery stores.

Some stores are one, two person or family operations and others employee 25 or fewer. What is unique about the stores is that the owners put their personal touches

in all that they do. It costs about $25,000 or more to open a store and that includes opening inventory, deposits and opening expenses. Some have done it on less inventory and smaller stores, while others have invested in excess of $100,000.00 to get underway.
